HYDROELECTRIC POWER

By Shikhar and Kyle

INTRODUCTION

Hydroelectricity is one of the most well-known methods of producing electrcity, and also one of the most evironmentally friendly methods that makes it very benefitial. Right here you'll get to know how it works, where it's produced, and how it affects our world now, what it might do in the near future, and many more.

How does Hydroectric power works?

Hydroelectric power is when the stored water in the dam runs through the turbine, and because of the force of the falling water, the turbine spins electromagnets above, which in turns and creates an electric current, which is converted to electrical energy through the transformer and send to our home through the transmission lines.

How wide spread is it?

Hydroelectric power is really widespread all over the world, over 150 countries use hydroelctric power and around 20-24% of world's electricity comes from hydroelectri power. And over 24 countries Africa also use hydroelctric power.

How efficient is it?-

Hydroelectric power is really efficent becasue , hydroeelctric power sends over 2.3 trillion kilowatt each year. But a hydroeelctric power is really costly to
build, it varies around $1.25 Billion, but the cost also depends on the place it produces in.

Advanages and Disvantages
Advantages
  • Dams can last for decades and still genrate electricity.
  • If we don't need electricity, we can stop it by closing the sluice gates.
  • Lake water can be used for irrigation purposes.
  • Generates huge amounts of power
  • Can be used for flood control
  • Creates jobs for people.

Disadvantages -
  • Dams are extreamely expinsive to build.
  • Migrating fish entering the dams
  • Technical problems in dam can hold back electricity conversion.
  • Building of large dams can cause serious geological damage.
  • It takes a lot of time to build a hydroelectric power plant.
  • Requries large area to build.
  • Large scale human displacement.

Role in the future -
Well, through all over our reaserch we have discovered that hydoelectric power would be less widespread in the future because of many ways like, other methods are investing more than hydroelectric power and there are more disadvantages than advantages.like its costly to build, migrating of fish require a large area and more. But if increase in human population would fairly increase it, because there will be an increased use of electronics and technology, which will result in an increase of its use, along with other kinds of energy producers.
Decrease and increase in other methods can also change the usage of hydroelectric power.
